The name 1001 Changes tells you a lot about who I am. Evolving from the phrase “I fell 1,000 times but rose again for the 1,001st”, it recognises that success has never come easily to me. I have stumbled in ways that were sometimes dramatic and other times banal but equally destructive.
But with every fall, I rose again. And each failure taught me something important about how change actually works.
What matters most is not the fall itself, but the decision to rise again with intention. Over time I learned that meaningful change is not driven by bursts of motivation or grand plans. It is built through habits and routines that act as steady anchors in rough seas. These habits became the foundation for rebuilding my life and continue to guide how I approach growth today.
Across the 52 years of my life, I have had to rebuild myself more than once, and habits have always been central to those changes. A habits-based approach helped me overcome childhood trauma and abuse within educational institutions, chronic addiction, depression, and long periods where bad habits left me completely stuck in middle age.
However, at some stage, my habits and routines pivoted from focussing on repairing the damage from my past towards building the future I wanted. More importantly, they became about intentionally crafting the man I wanted to become.
And herein lies the real secret about habits: whether we like it or not, and whether those habits are good or bad, they are fundamental to our identity. They shape how we see ourselves, how others experience us, and what we believe is possible. And once we understand that, change stops feeling abstract. We can take ownership of the process, decide who we want to be, and gradually craft ourselves into that person.
My approach to personal change is built on a simple but powerful sequence:
The identity we aspire to shapes the values we want to live by.
Those core values decide the keystone habits we choose to prioritise.
Over time, these keystone habits evolve into the routines and lifestyles that structure our lives.
Together, they reinforce the identity we are intentionally building.
At the heart of this system is the understanding that strategy alone is never enough. Real change requires a clear sense of direction. You need a vision of who you could become and the corresponding values you are willing to make non-negotiable. That vision gives meaning to the work.
From there, progress becomes practical. Keystone habits are chosen not because they are impressive, but because they are realistic and repeatable. Small daily actions compound. Structure replaces reliance on motivation. And consistent, achievable progress becomes the goal, not perfection.
When you work with me, you gain access to grounded, habit-based strategies that have shaped both my own life and the lives of the people I coach. This is not about chasing dramatic transformations or ideal conditions. It is about building routines that function in the real world, within the pressures and responsibilities of everyday life.
You will be supported in developing systems that are sustainable, flexible, and focused on steady movement forward. Progress happens through small, deliberate steps that compound over time. So, instead of cycling between extremes of effort and burnout, you learn how to build momentum that lasts.
